A Therapy Dog is a dog with an outstanding temperament and has passed the Canine Good Citizen Certification Program
CGC is a certification program that is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate.
As you and Lucky K9s work with your dog to teach the CGC skills, you'll discover the many benefits and joys of training your dog. Upon completing the CGC test their owners are then ready to volunteer their time to improve the lives of other people.
We want to share our animals with other people - especially those who are more vulnerable, lonely, or in pain. Working with the people we visit is rewarding and fun. It is wonderful to see the affection between the patients and the dogs.
You may think you can never do this but it is very easy. The joy and happiness you and your wonderful animal can bring to people who are bedridden, in wheelchairs, or isolated from normal companionship is unbelievable!!!
Lucky K9s recommends that your dog go through their basic obedience course prior to taking the CGC Evaluation. Nevertheless, the most important aspect of the test is the evaluation of the dog’s temperament.
